All About the Auction

Thank you for visiting my Guide Dog Puppy Sponsorship Fundraiser Auction site! I hope everyone will bid generously on the excellent items included in this online auction.  Each winning bid (or other donation) goes to a great cause – the care and training of a puppy to become a guide dog for the blind.

Auction Dates:
The next auction will run from 10am CST Friday February, 24 2012 through Sunday March 04, 2012 at 10pm Central Time. No bids will be accepted before this time.

Want to help?
  • Before the auction begins: If you are interested in donating an item to the auction, please contact me at yellowdogphotog [at] gmail [dot] com so I can get all the necessary information from you in order to make a listing for your contribution. These products and/or services don't have to be dog-related or blindness related, they don't have to be crafty hand made things, and they don't even have to be a physical product. Any item or talent you would like to contribute to help me raise money for my cause would be much appreciated. However, I must ask that donors cover any associated cost with the item they are contributing, including shipping of the item to the winning bidder.
  • Once the auction is in progress: The best way you can help is by bidding!
    • If you are not interested in any of the auction items, but would still like to help me reach my goal, please see the Guide Dog Puppy Sponsorship Info page for more details on the many ways you can contribute to the project.
  • Also, please spread the word! Tell friends and family, tweet links, include links in blog posts, and share links and info on Facebook!  The more people who know about the auction, the more potential there is to raise money for a guide dog puppy!

Finding Items that Interest You:
  • If you are searching for a certain item, you can find it in the "All Auction Items" list in the blog sidebar. Scroll down to the item that interests you and click on the link to go to the individual page for it.
  • If you want to search through general categories of items, there is an "Item Categories" list in the sidebar too. If you find a category that interests you, click on it, and you will be taken to a page displaying all of the listings included in that category.
  • If you live outside the U.S. and want to browse only items that are available to ship to your location, check out the "Items for Bidders by Location" list for links to items sorted by where they can be shipped: U.S. only, North America only, or Worldwide.
  • You can also just browse through all of the listings shown in the "Items Up for Auction" homepage tab/link.  You can navigate through the listings pages using the Previous Items/More Items links that will appear near the bottom of the page(s) when needed.

Bidding:
  • Each item is listed in a separate post, with its own bidding section. You can bid on any item by clicking on the link at the bottom of the item post which displays the current number of bids for that item and filling in the comment box on the resulting post page.
  • When you fill out the bid/comment form, if you aren’t logged in to Blogger with a Google or OpenID account (which includes a link to a blog currently in use by you), please select the Name/URL option and include your name, website address (if you have one), and/or an email address so I have a way to contact you if you win. Please do not use the Anonymous option. I need a way to contact you if you end up being a winning bidder!
    • I suggest you  spell out your email address - like this: username [at] emailprovider [dot] com -  to help prevent spambots from harvesting it.
  • When making a bid, you can choose whatever amount you can afford to support our cause, but make sure it's an amount greater than all previous bids, and that it is at least the minimum bid amount listed in the post if no other bids have been made yet.
  • Keep checking the bidding section of the item(s) you have bid on for updates, to see if you have been outbid.  If you are outbid, and you can afford to make a higher bid on the item, please do so. The highest bid on each item at the end of the week wins the item! And don't forget, your money is going to a great cause - a future guide dog puppy.
  • Do not submit bids for several different items in the same comment. You are welcome to bid on more than one item, but please submit your bids separately into the bidding sections of each specific item listing.
  • NOTE: To avoid spam (and also to avoid the Word Verification/CAPTCHA feature which is tough for screen reader users to solve), I am using the Comment Moderation feature. This means your bid comment won't appear on the site immediately. However, Blogger will be sending notifications to my email/phone, so (unless you submit your bid in the middle of the night when I might possibly be asleep) I'll try to approve all bids, in the order they came in, within 15 minutes or so of receiving them.
  • International bidders: Due to the fact that international shipping can be extremely expensive (as well as longer shipping times, and some countries' customs limitations, especially on food items), not every item included in the auction is eligible to be shipped worldwide.  Each auction listing states where the item can be shipped (and thus where bids can be accepted from). If you live outside the United States, please be aware of these special notes, and thank you for your understanding.
Winning Bid Payments:
Within 24 hours of the auction closing, I will email the winner for each item and ask them to pay for their item(s) through our fundraising project's page on FirstGiving.  FirstGiving accepts all major credit cards worldwide, as well as U.S. debit cards.  Please try to make your payment within 24 hours of me contacting you to tell you you've won, so your prize can be shipped promptly.
If, for whatever reason you cannot make your payment via this online method, please let me know ASAP so we can make other arrangements for you to pay for your item(s).
If the winner of an auction does not make their payment or arrangements for payment within five days of being notified that they've won their item - they will lose the item and I will contact the next-highest bidder, awarding them the winning bid instead.  So, if you've won something, please pay for it ASAP.  I very much appreciate your timely cooperation in making this process as quick, simple and smooth as possible.

Shipping:
Unless otherwise noted, items should be shipped to winners within approximately one to two weeks of the end of the auction - assuming I receive payment for the item in a timely manner. Delayed payment could result in delayed shipping.
Please Note: Those of us who have donated items to the auction are paying for shipping costs ourselves, in addition to the cost of the donated item, so we are likely to use the least expensive shipping option possible. As a result, while your item should be shipped within a week or so of the auction closing, I cannot guarantee that it will arrive to you within that amount of time.

Questions:
If you have further questions about this auction or my puppy sponsorship project, please contact me via my personal blog, Twitter, Facebook or drop me an email at yellowdogphotog [at] gmail [dot] com, and I will do my best to answer anything not already covered in the pages of this site.

THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed in one way or another to my Guide Dog Puppy Sponsorship project so far.  I took on this fundraising goal as a way to “give back” for the gift of the two wonderful guide dogs I’ve had the privilege of sharing my life with so far, but I couldn't do it without the generous support of others.
